Making A Homemade Herbal Remedy To Ease Your Sore, Aching Knee

After injuring your knee, you may find that it is sore and painful for a few days, leading you to seek various ways to find relief. If so, use the following homemade herbal remedy along with any medical treatments to reduce the pain and inflammation.

What You Will Need

To make your home remedy, you will need to gather the following supplies and ingredients. You can find the ingredients at pharmacies, department and grocery stores, and natural health shops.

  • Small microwavable bowl
  • Half of a cup of sesame oil
  • One teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • One tablespoon of freshly grated ginger
  • Sheet of plastic wrap, enough to wrap around your knee
  • One terry cloth towel

The sesame oil in this remedy serves as the carrier oil. However, it also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce the swelling around your knee. When used warm, it also helps loosen the muscles and relieves any tightness you may be experiencing.

Along with the sesame oil, the ground cinnamon relieves pain by reducing inflammation. The ginger has pain-relieving properties that reduce the soreness.

Directions For Use

After getting together everything you need, follow the directions below to make and use your homemade herbal treatment.

  1. In the bowl, mix together the sesame oil, cinnamon, and ginger.
  2. Place the bowl in the microwave, and heat for about 30 seconds.
  3. Let the mixture stand for about five minutes. This not only cools the oil to a comfortable temperature, but it gives the herbs time to infuse into the oil.
  4. Place a small amount of the herbal oil into the palm of your hand, and rub it between both palms.
  5. Rub the oil onto your knee, lightly massaging it into your skin.
  6. Repeat steps four and five until your entire knee is covered, including the front, back, and both sides.
  7. Wrap your knee with the plastic wrap.
  8. Run the towel under warm water, and wring it out as much as possible.
  9. Wrap the towel around the plastic. The moist heat helps relax the muscles further.
  10. Leave the treatment on for about 10 to 15 minutes, then remove the towel and plastic wrap.
  11. Rub any excess oil into the skin.

Using the above home remedy two or three times a day should give you some relief from your knee pain. However, if you notice an increase in your symptoms or cannot find relief, you may want to make an appointment with an orthopedic doctor so they can examine you and discuss any treatment options available to you.
